about the
Make Up First® School of Makeup Artistry, founded in 2006, is the only state-certified comprehensive art program for the training of makeup artists in the entire Midwest. Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, the School is dedicated to the art of makeup and its many facets. The School is now an approved sponsor for CE under the IL Barber Act.
Classroom sizes are kept to a minimum for optimal learning. Make Up First® is the premier makeup training school in the region, offering extensive hands-on studio time required to perfect techniques. Students will learn by applying, not just listening, and will have the opportunity to build and replenish their makeup artist kit from high-quality, student-discounted makeup artist cosmetics offered for sale at the School.
Each of the School's instructors is a professional, working in the industry of their craft. The instructors include artists from Broadway productions, Ravinia, the Goodman Theater, Lyric Opera of Chicago, board-certified dermatologists, photographers, and media makeup artists. The instructors' first-hand, professional knowledge of their industry is passed directly on to the students.
The Certification Program consists of the following courses: Basic Makeup I, Basic Makeup II, Media Makeup HD, Media (Runway/Fantasy/Editorial), Theatrical Makeup, Clinical Makeup and Careers in Makeup Artistry. Advanced courses, also approved by the state of Illinois, include Airbrush, Bridal, Media II and Theatrical II.
Workshops are also offered in Special Effects Makeup, and the Art of Wig Making. Make Up First® is the only makeup artistry school where makeup artists are also given the opportunity to learn to style hair through specific workshops: Hairstyling for Makeup Artists, both beginning and advanced.
